Teen Town Tønder
The Danish Ministry of Agriculture dedicated in the spring 1 million Danish kroner to the project “Teen Town”, targeted initiatives for young people in rural areas – including the Municipality of Tønder. The idea is to get many more young people to actively take part in the development of their local area and involve young people in decisions about the future development of rural areas.
In relation to this Story Field, together with Digital StoryLab, Copenhagen Business School and the Local Action Group will be implementing a digital storytelling project in Tønder. During 2011, youth from Tønder will participate in a series of digital storytelling workshops where they make movies about their experiences, dreams and life in Tønder. The stories will be shared online and transformed into concrete initiatives for youth projects implemented by young people themselves.
The project is an innovative way to combine digital storytelling with user-driven innovation. The goal is through stories, to reach a greater collective understanding of who we were, who we are and who we want to be and become as communities – and what is peculiar to just Tønder – seen through the eyes of young people.
When new ideas and initiatives have direct roots in concrete personal narratives and they create the foundation for informed initiatives and community building, based on the youth’s own experiences and dreams.
The fund for Teen Town is launched under the Rural Development Programme under the grant scheme “Attractive living conditions in rural areas”, whose purpose is to give people in rural areas good living conditions. The Rural Development Programme is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and the EU.
