Citizen views on the system
The Council for Socially Marginalised recommended in their annual report for 2009 to establish a common set of values for the social and health-related efforts to socially vulnerable. The recommendation came in light of the Council’s Health Study “Bad Life – Bad Health” 2009, showing that many socially marginalized have bad experiences with the contact to social and health services. The negative experiences can create mistrust and cause the socially marginalized citizens to avoid addressing the system, even if they need advice and treatment.
In connection with the preparation of a common set of values, it is a desire and purpose from the social and health ministry to involve user’s and professional’s personal experiences with social and health-related efforts. In order to involve user and professional perspectives in a new and different way, Story Field in collaboration with Public Health and Quality development in Region Midtjylland, helps to collect a series of video narratives, which draws on citizens’ personal experiences. The stories of 3-5 minutes duration are produced in a workshop, where the participants instruct their own films about their lives, experiences and encounter with the system.
The films will then be used to inform politicians and decision makers in shaping the new ethos of vulnerable citizens’ contact with social and health services.
